Radovan Karadzic: August 2008:
I'm sure many people both here in the UK and Bosnia were very
excited by the news that Radovan Karadzic had been arrested and
taken to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes. But as one of
the translators in Sarajavo, who works for the charity close to my
heart (Healing Hands Network) said "we thought we were putting all
that into the past and now it will all be brought up again."
It throws a different light on it doesn't it that for many people in
Bosnia the trial will mean reliving their ordeal; and also that
there are many people in Sarajavo who still support Karadzic. It is
not our place to take sides, or to enter into any discussions about
right and wrong - just to treat anyone who needs our help and
respect their opinions.

Thich Nhat Hanh UK Tour 2008
I went to London on Friday to hear Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) speak at
the Friends House in Euston Road. We listened and joined in with a Nun
giving a meditation, what a beautiful voice she has, she took us to
a very special place deep within ourselves. The nuns and the monks
sang a song to the music of a guitar and a drum, they made the back
of my neck goose bump and I felt very emotional.
Thay then came on the platform very modestly, we hardly knew he had
arrived, he is so humble and radiated an inner glow I have never
seen before. He spoke very quietly about 'Mindfulness' in our
everyday lives, 'Mindfulness' is the miracle by which we master and
restore ourselves, keeping our attention focused.
He has lived an extraordinary life. Since the age of sixteen he has
been a Buddhist monk and a peace activist. During the war in
Vietnam, he worked tirelessly for reconcilliation between North and
south Vietnam. His courageous efforts to generate peace moved Martin
Luther King Jnr. to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967.
Forced into exile because of his efforts to negotiate peace he
continued his social activism, founding universities and social
service organisations in his homeland and working to rescue boat
people. He is the author of many books including such important
classics as Peace is Every Step and Anger. He lives in Plum Village
Monastry in France.
